B.I.G. Camp

OK, B.I.G. was my nightmare, but once I’d been, surprisingly, I enjoy it!

B.I.G. stands for Bina Insan Guru, some sort of outbound camp, used to be very dangerous and ‘Survivor’ type for those my seniors, but they modified it, ‘cause ‘something’ happened. Now, no more flying fox, no more sitting in the middle of the jungle in the midnight with only some ‘sulfur’ surrounding you.

First day, we were sent to the camp site by BUS (I thought we need to walk) to Tg. Sedili, somewhere near Kota Tinggi, Johor. Then, we set up our camp. The funniest part was one lecturer asked us to nail our camp, another said don’t. Later, we didn’t nail our camp, the lecturer who said ‘must’ came around, then scolded us. So, life in college, being scolded and ‘Smile’. Plus, every meal since we arrived at the campsite was cooked by everyone of us, in turns. But three groups of Majoring Mandarin plus one group of Majoring English had good cooks among us! The 4 days 3 nights there, I ate the best meal ever since I entered this college (that mamak stall outside our campus sometimes got ‘weird’ cooking).
2nd day, water activities. Quite fun, though. Without those ‘breath-taking’ part that was told by our seniors, haha. The tutor who taught us was a good lady tutor. She never shouted. Thus, half of us who scare of water could learn to float and swim the ‘dog’ style at the end. At the end of the day, we almost floated away by tides… luckily we had the strength to hold tight on the string and the help of others to keep on moral supporting us. The last activity was to cross the river mouth which was quite deep guiding by string and life jacket. Lastly, they even pulled back the string to help our last three teammates.
3rd day, jungle trekking. I thought it would be tough, considering Pahang has thick forests and I’d been to one of them! But the route was easy, compare to my previous experience. Less walking upwards, but walking on flat ground. The trickiest part was to carry one of our teammates as patient, walking through tunnels, (quite small) and carried a distance. Luckily we chose the lightest. Later, cooking by the seaside, tutors said no to matches and lighter, but we ‘curi-curi’ bring those, and also old newspaper too… so that we didn’t have to go and find firewood. The cooking was nice and creative, (thanks to our team leader, Kak Ashah) but all added with sand…
4th day which also the last day, my lips swollen because of allergy, I guess. The camp commander brought 11 of us to the nearby clinic, no doctor there, so the nurse gave me some Bonjela… after 3 days… my lips back to normal. But that day, I’ve Angelina Jolie’s lips, and the worst past was I used that swollen lips to sing on rehearsal and the real convocation day the following two days… (ya, my life sucks…)
After the camp, we still need to sing for choir the following two days, then even need to attend classes on Friday. Saturday and Sunday were another two days for other activities. So, I’m totally wear off till the end of March… Quite a memory though.
